Destiny is already one of the most popular franchises of the current gaming generation, and it accomplished that feat with just a single game and a handful of DLC expansions. Now, after many teases, leaks, and official confirmation earlier this week, developer Bungie just announced Destiny 2‘s release date, while also confirming that the title will appear on both consoles as well as PC. And there’s a new trailer, too.
The trailer, which focuses mostly on the vague backstory and a couple of key recognizable characters than gameplay or plot development, nails Bungie’s signature mix of over-the-top, “save the human race” storytelling with a dash of goofy humor. Two familiar faces offer a pair of very different speeches to rally their teams, with the robotic Cayde-6 — voice by none other than Nathan Fillion — falling a bit short of compelling.
Several flashbacks offer glimpses at past battles and the current state of affairs, including the mysterious “Traveler,” a huge moon-sized satellite which arrived before the plot of the original Destiny title, looking quite a bit different than fans will remember.
Aside from another look at the characters and setting, the biggest part of the announcement is that Destiny 2 will arrive on PC alongside its console editions, marking the first time the franchise has appeared on anything other than a PlayStation or Xbox.
