‘Grand Theft Auto 4’ and both expansions now playable on Xbox One

As of today, Grand Theft Auto IV and both of its expansions are backward compatible with the Xbox One. Microsoft adds to its list of backward compatible games each and every month, but it’s not often that a game as popular as Grand Theft Auto IV makes its way on to that list (partly because there are few, if any, games as popular as the latest two entries in the Grand Theft Auto franchise).

According to Rockstar Games, both Grand Theft Auto IV and Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City — which included expansions The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony on a single disc — are now playable on Xbox One. In fact, virtually any version of GTA 4, digital or physical, will work on Xbox One, including The Complete Edition. If you don’t already own a digital copy or a game disc, you can buy the game and both of the expansions on the Xbox Store for a total of $50.

While Grand Theft Auto V has certainly taken the spotlight in recent years, GTA 4 was a massive success on the PS3 and Xbox 360 as well, selling over 25 million copies to date. Niko Bellic isn’t quite as memorable as Trevor Philips, but the world of GTA 4’s Liberty City is just as fascinating in 2017 as it was in 2008.

Now that GTA 4, GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption are all playable on modern consoles, let’s hope that Rockstar turns it full attention to Red Dead Redemption 2 and gets it out the door in time for the holidays.
