Android 6.0 Marshmallow’s Distribution Figures Climb To 18.7%

android_distro_septFor those who are keeping track of Android’s distribution figures, the latest numbers are out. Note that while Android 7.0 Nougat has been released, we guess there aren’t that many devices that have installed it yet for it to appear on the Android developer dashboard, so for now Marshmallow is still listed as the latest OS.

That being said, Marshmallow has seen some gains compared to the previous month. According to the numbers, Marshmallow is sitting at 18.7%, meaning that out of all the Android devices that have visited the Google Play Store, 18.7% of them run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This is an increase of 3.5% from 15.2% from last month.

As it stands it seems that Marshmallow is the only Android update that has increased in distribution figures. Older updates such as Android Lollipop has actually decreased in distribution by about 0.5%, although it is still the dominant update at 35%. KitKat has also seen a decrease by 1.5%, Jelly Bean by 1.1%, and Ice Cream Sandwich and Gingerbread by 0.2%.

For some reason or the other, Android 2.2 Froyo is still clinging on. We have no idea when Nougat will finally break into the charts, so we’ll give it about a month or two, so be sure to check back with us then for more updates.
