A couple of months ago with Microsoft having only released Windows 10 for a few days, it was revealed that the operating system commanded about 2.3% of Steam’s platform. This was quite an accomplishment especially when you consider that Apple’s OS X platform was only at 1.94% for OS X 10.10.
That being said fast forward to two months later, it looks like Windows 10 has increased its market share greatly, and according to the latest figures, Windows 10 now commands close to 25% of Steam’s platform (combining both the 32- and 64-bit versions of the operating system). This represented a change of 7.6% from the previous month.
As expected Windows 7 is still clearly dominating the list at 37.48%, although the numbers have shown that Windows 7’s market share did dip slightly by 2.23%, but for now it remains in the lead. However given how fast Windows 10 is growing, we wouldn’t be surprised if it would eclipse Windows 7 in a relatively short amount of time.
In the meantime, Apple’s OS X is still struggling with a combined market share of 3.23% amongst gamers on Steam, and even though OS X 10.11 El Capitan has been released, it is nowhere in sight in Steam’s numbers, but perhaps that might change next month.
